Description
This model is a large military or commercial aircraft storage or maintenance hangar used from the 1930s through the 1970s at many bases including the US. This model has a single sheet materials. The model is built very near to scale in meters. and includes much of the structural detail for good camera shots. The large door panels are animated to open in sequence. Diffuse, bump and opacity maps make up the appearance including the hundreds of window panes and skylights as well as the corrugated surfaced metal.
This hanger is large enough for several fighters, two light or medium WWII era bombers or one of some large heavy bombers. It is also large enough for commercial usage to service aircraft like Lockheed Electra, DC-9, Boeing 727 and others of the same general size. It is not large enough for heavy commercial wide-body aircraft. This model comes with multiple formats and all materials and textures as shown.
These hangers exist at many airports even to this day and many are still in use. They are strong, rugged and have in many cases been updated and remodeled. They have been used for everything from storing aircraft, aircraft maintenance and service, aircraft storage and warehouse. These buildings were some of the first uses of the structural steel truss building used in conjunction with aviation and warehousing.
