Hello, this is Milia. This project is titled Old Korean Southern Coastal Fishing Boat.
The model is based on a small wooden fishing boat my grandfather once piloted along the southern coast of Korea. I modeled this vessel to closely resemble what I personally remember seeing as a child. Unlike the modern fishing boats currently used in Korea, this one represents the hand-built wooden boats that were commonly crafted during the 1950s to 1970s.
Key Features:The boat includes a distinctive rudder made of dark blue wood, located right behind the cabin, helping to easily control the boat’s direction. The rudder extends all the way behind the rear screw (propeller), which was a common structure back then.
The rectangular raised box in front of the cabin functioned as a temporary fish storage compartment during net fishing.
The tires and yellow rubber bumpers attached around the boat are modeled after real shock absorbers used in my grandfather’s village. This method helped protect boats from collisions, especially during the summer typhoon season—a typical concern for southern coastal fishermen in Korea.
