The Allen M. Sumner-class destroyer was a highly capable U.S. Navy warship design introduced late in World War II, representing an evolution of earlier destroyers with a strong emphasis on anti-aircraft firepower and survivability. Compared to its predecessors, it featured a broader beam for improved stability and carried six 5-inch/38 caliber dual-purpose guns in three twin turrets, giving it formidable surface and anti-air capability, along with a heavy suite of anti-aircraft weapons and ten torpedo tubes. Equipped with advanced radar and fire-control systems for its time, the class proved effective in screening carrier task forces and defending against aircraft, particularly during the Pacific campaign. A total of 58 ships were built, many of which continued to serve into the Cold War after modernization upgrades, demonstrating the design’s durability and adaptability.

At 1/72 scale the finished model will measure approximately 1600mm long x 180mm wide x 435mm tall from keel to top of mast. Illustrated assembly guide included, in PDF format. 3D files (STL format) were designed in CAD. All parts scaled to fit 250mm x 250mm bed. Alternative split hull build for ease of transport.
