The Astrolabe is designed to navigate difficult southern and arctic seas and operate in pack ice with an ICE BREAKER 57 rating, i.e. in 1.2m thick first-year ice in summer and 1 m in winter. 72 m long, it is commissioned by around twenty sailors and can support the activity of sixty people for missions lasting 35 days at 12 knots and transporting 1,200 tonnes of freight. It is equipped with a helicopter platform, a 35-ton crane and a rear gantry.
