Buggy first appeared in the 1950s in the United States. For the manufacture of the first buggies, obsolete Volkswagen Beetles were usually used. From the diminutive form of the American name “Beetle” came the name “buggy”, that is, “bug”. The body, doors and fenders were removed from the car, a lightweight frame or fiberglass body was installed as a supporting structure, or a stripped-down version of the standard body was left. Due to the cross-country ability and strength of the Zhuk chassis, its high ground clearance, the absence of a radiator, and the rear engine, this car was ideally suited for the production of buggies. Also contributed to the popularity and availability of this car.
