Description

Montánchez Castle is a true example of what were the castles of the Reconquista in the Middle Ages. For the formation of the group of buildings it seems to be that it was a fortress, from which came the walls that surrounded the Old Village. Today, the castle is characterized by its dominant location, the irregular layout and overlapping volumes and curtains. The alternation of Moors and Christians in its domain allowed the addition of architectural elements of Christian typology of the early Muslim work; this time persist three tanks and part of their path. Later, under the administration of the Order of Santiago, repairs and additions were substantial, focusing these on the walls and screed lifting several enclosures and fences surround. The main body of the castle is in the highest point of the land. The Keep has in its interior with several outbuildings, such as a camera, the armory, a noble room on the lower floor and a barn.
