Purple Sand Clay (also known as Yixing clay 宜興紫砂) is a type of clay produced in the region of Yixing in China, used in Chinese pottery since the Song dynasty (960–1279 AD). Since 17th century, Yixing wares had been exported to Europe. The finished stoneware, which is used for teaware and other small items, is usually red or brown in colour. Yixing clay are the most welcomed and expensive materials for making teaware due to its great properties for bring out the fragrance and taste of tea. So Teawares made of Yixing clay have been as famous as porcelain teawares in China.

The style of this teapot refers to the antique teapot found in the grave of an official of Ming Dynasty(1533 AD). It is the oldest Yixing teapot found so far.
