Ciudad del Este is the second largest city in Paraguay and the administrative center of the department of Alto Paraná. It is, above all, a shopping center. The population is about 274,000 people. The city was founded in 1957 on the river Paraná on the border with Brazil and bore the name of Puerto Florida de Lis.
