Cityscape Lübeck German (fragment city)
Lübeck is a German city famous for its gothic-style brick buildings. These buildings date back to the Middle Ages, when Lübeck was the capital of the Hansa, an important trading union. The symbol of the city is the red brick Holstein Gate, which guarded the Old Town on the banks of the river. Among other sights stands out the Church of St. Mary, built in the XIII-XIV centuries and restored after the Second World War. The appearance of the church had a huge impact on the medieval architects of Northern Europe.
