Montreal is the largest city in the Canadian province of Quebec. It is located on an island at the confluence of the St. Lawrence and Ottawa rivers and is named after the three-headed mountain Mont Royal, which is located in the city center. The most famous areas of Montreal, many of which were once separate cities, are the bohemian Plateau Mont-Royal and the French colonial Old Montreal with the neo-Gothic Notre Dame de Montreal basilica and cobbled streets.
