Muscat is the capital of Oman, a port city on the coast of the Gulf of Oman, surrounded by mountains and desert. The history of these places dates back to ancient times. Now there are high-class shopping centers, historical sights, for example, the Portuguese forts of the 16th century Al-Jalali and Al-Mirani. They can be seen from the harbor as the fortification is built on top of the hill. Modern buildings include the large Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque, which can accommodate 20 thousand people. Its dome rises 50 meters.
