Cityscape Praha Czech Republic Praha is the capital of the Czech Republic, spread along both banks of the Vltava River and known as the City of a Hundred Spires. The heart of the city's historic center is the Old Town Square, surrounded by colorful Baroque buildings, Gothic churches and the medieval town hall with its astronomical clock, the Prague Astronomical Clock, in which figures move every hour. The pedestrian Charles Bridge, completed in 1402, is decorated with statues of Catholic saints.
