Carotenes are unsaturated hydrocarbons with the formula C40Hx. This collection contains:
- α-Carotene (CAS: 7488-99-5)
- ß-Carotene (CAS: 7235-40-7)
- γ-Carotene (CAS: 472-93-5)
- δ-Carotene (CAS: 472-92-4)
Carotenes occur naturally in plants but (with few exceptions) not in animals. Carotenes are important for photosynthesis. They absorb UV and blue light and scatter orange / red light. Carotenes are responsible for the orange colour of carrots and many other fruits & vegetables, _e.g. _sweet potatoes. ß-Carotene is broken down in humans to form retinal, a form of vitamin A.
Molecules are provided in three standard representations and includes a simulated electrostatic (van der Waals) surface. The whole model is provided as a C4D scene, all objects are editable primitives or metaball object.
