The 3-litre engine of the Ferrari 312P was a direct offshoot of the 12-cylinder engine of the Type 312, a Formula 1 race car, which featured four valves per combustion chamber.Despite the minor modifications, it remained a high-bred Formula 1 engine, made for sprint races rather than a 24-hour endurance race that demanded high performance stability and tolerance of ordeals. All being considered, however, Franco Rocchi did a great job.It is just a sleek, beautifully-integrated 12-cylinder engine with a 60° cylinder angle. What you are looking at in this dust-proof showcase is an engine of rarely-achieved balance, together with a flanged five-speed transmission. The ingeniously intricate design of the exhaust pipe ensemble is a feast for the eyes.
