  • Description
  • Formats

PBR realistic 3D model of a mechanical vintage gramophone.

Characteristics:

  • Good for close views.
  • Looks believable even when disassembled (hollow pipes).
  • Animation ready (hierarchical structure with pivots properly placed, no bones).
  • Generic, not intended to depict any specific real world brand (copyright safe).
  • All third-party pictures used are either public domain or cc0 (copyright safe).
  • Textures are 4K PBR - Physically Based Rendering, for Roughness/Metalness workflow.
  • Compatible with subdivision (mesh smoothing) without changing its original format.
  • Entirely UV-mapped, with fully unwrapped UVs (non-overlapping UVs).
  • Objects and materials are descriptively and uniquely named.
  • Originally modeled on Maya LT, textured with Substance Painter.

Included formats:

  • Blender 3.3.1.
  • Unity 2020 (unitypack)
  • Marmoset Toolbag 3.07 Scene Bundle.
  • Fbx, obj and dae (textures set included separately).
  • Unreal Engine 4.24 (uasset), also tested with versions 4.27 and 5.20.

Unreal Engine format specifics:

  • Overview map included.
  • Included one example blueprint with objects hierarchically placed (no code).
  • Included meshes for each part of the model, positioned at the origin, for blueprint use.
  • Included one extra mesh with all parts combined, for fully static use.
  • Base materials and material instances.
  • No third-party plugins needed.

Geometry:

  • Model consists of 12 parts: Gramophone, Horn, Arm, Box, Needle, NeedleScrew, Crank, CrankHandler, Turntable, Record, BrakeLever and SpeedLever.
  • Sealed geometry / watertight (no open edges).
  • No ngons (quads only).
  • No coincident (overlapping) vertices.
  • No nonmanifold geometry.
  • No hard edges.
  • No vertex is connected to more than 5 edges (no poles).
  • Total poly count is 23765 (23765 quads) and 23817 vertices.
  • Compatible with subdivision (mesh smoothing) without changing its original format.
  • Unreal format (uasset) triangulates all faces.

Materials and textures:

  • One material: MatGramophone.
  • All textures are png, 4096 x 4096 pixels (4K textures).
  • Blender and Marmoset formats use relative texture paths.
  • PBR textures set: base color, both directx and opengl normal maps, height (bump), metalness, AO (ambient occlusion), roughness and ORM (composite ambient occlusion (R) + roughness (G) + metalness (B)).
  • Exchange formats (obj, fbx, dae): no embeded textures, so you can import them from the PBR set, in accordance to the requirements of your 3D editor.

Preview images:

  • Unreal preview images captured with Auto Exposure disabled.
  • Preview Blender images are rendered with Cycles (not tested with Eevee).
  • HDRI used in Blender previews is CC0 from Poly Haven (formerly HDRI Haven) and is included.
  • HDRIs used in Marmoset previews are part of Marmoset software.
  • Anthropomorphic mannequin model shown in preview of version 5 of Unreal Engine is part of the engine itself (3rd person template) and is not included.

Units and measurement:

  • Real world scale.
  • Unit system is metric (centimeters).
  • Full model dimensions (horn posed as depicted on preview images): 75.1 cm (width) x 88.3 cm (height) x 56.7 cm (deep).
  • Full model dimensions (horn pointing forward): 61.4 cm (width) x 88.3 cm (height) x 57.4 cm (deep).

Additional notes:

  • Fbx and obj formats were exported by Maya LT.
  • Collada (dae) format was exported by Blender.
  • The obj format does not preserve the hierarchy or the pivots locations of the different objects. If you import this format, you may need to redo what it lacks.
  • For your convenience, on Blender format the Subdivision Surface modifier is applied to some parts of the model (you can remove it, if you want).
  • Photograph of the painting 'Dog looking at and listening to a phonograph' is now public domain, as its copyright from 1899 was not renewed. Picture and data retrieved from the US Library of Congress, Control Number 96521608.
  • Dog barking to music drawing on record labels is public domain and CC0 from RawPixel.
