if the holder is axially fixed on correct distance and the correct size and strength magnets with the correct poplar orientation are used, the gear would never need to touch each other, in order to function like a magnetic gear. the center magnet is red, a neodymium ring magnet, pulls on another gears blue magnets while repelling the other red center magnet. they dont want to be together, but can also not leave the influence of the opposing pairs, sort of like a magnetically locked, no contact, no friction gear.
