This 3D model is a faithful digital reproduction of the real, nationally designated Important Cultural Property Ōgane‑ke Residence long‑gate (nagaya-mon).
What is a nagayamon: a nagayamon is a traditional Japanese gatehouse that combines a main gate with an attached long building; it typically features a central passage for people or carts with rooms or storage spaces extending to one or both sides, serving both defensive and domestic functions in historic estates. Because the Ōgane family were prosperous wealthy farmers, the nagayamon at their residence was used as storage and as a guard’s quarters.
The model is accurately modeled based on the actual architectural drawings of the building, reproducing timber framing, supporting beams, joinery details, and the characteristic extended eaves. Modular construction: roofs, walls, doors, and structural members are created as separate parts so you can move, hide, or replace individual elements for visualization, animation, or architectural analysis.
Conservation records show that the building was repaired in 1981, when researchers discovered that the gate’s original roof had been thatch; subsequent restoration returned the roof to thatch. Earlier repairs in Meiji 26 (1893) introduced a tile roof. To reflect these historical states, this product includes two roof variants: traditional thatch and Meiji‑era tile, both provided as switchable options for rendering and export.
