Description

The Jeweler's Building is a 523 foot (159m) tall skyscraper in Chicago. The richly ornamented building was designed by Joachim G. Giaver and Frederick P. Dinkelberg and completed in 1927. The Jewelers Building gets its name the many jewelry merchants who once occupied the building. For many years, a car elevator operated to securely transport people and valuable merchandise in and out of the building. In the years since its opening, the building now houses the officers of world-renowned architect Helmut Jahn. Legend has it that infamous gangster Al Capone once ran a speakeasy in the cupola at the top of the building.
