The King Charles I Lighthouse located within the Port of Constanța was inaugurated in 1909, taking over the baton from the old Genovese Lighthouse on the Constanţa Beach. Built under the auspices of the first king of Romania after whom it is named, the octagonal lighthouse stands proudly at 21.75m above sea level, representing at the time, one of the most modern constructions in its category. The Charles I lighthouse is mounted on a stone tower facing the sea decorated with the effigy of the king, and on the opposite side with the bust of Roman Emperor Trajan.
