The Mark 12 torpedo was developed by the US Navy in the late 1920s and early 1930s to be a destroyer launched torpedo for use in anti ship battles. The Mark 12 was a slightly slower version of the Mark 11 torpedo. 200 were built. It weighed 3505 pounds and was 271 inches long and had a diameter of 21 inches. It had a range of several thousand yards but was most effective at about a mile. The Mark 12 was gyroscope guided and turbine powered. It had a speed of 27-44 knots.
