Description

Pietra Rasa is a historical technique for visible walls where field and rubble stones were mortared and plastered. In this process, the excess mortar is spread smoothly on the stone surfaces, but the stone heads remain uncovered and visible. Subsequently, a joint line is drawn or scratched with a trowel into the plaster. It was commonly used during the 11th century in Europe for castle walls of minor status where the drawn line in the plaster should mimic larger stone blocks and should hide the crudeness of the used stone.
