Description

This Mithraeum Votive Altar is a low-poly model, based on the one discovered in the mithraeum under Saint Clemente's Basilica. Mithraeums (Mithraea) are grotto or cave temples that house the services of practitioners of the Mithraic Mysteries cult. Mithras, while distinctly Roman in representation killing the bull (the Tauroctony) and being 'rock-born' is often depicted wearing the Phrygian Cap and the name seems to suggest possible connections with the Persian god named Mithra or the Vedic god named Mitra-Varuna. While the Mithraic Mysteries cult is no longer a mystery, the associated artifacts and artitecture found all over the world make for an interesting 3D project theme.

The model is UV mapped. Texture, displacement and normal maps are output to 4096 X 4096 pixels.
