A friend of mine asked me to do some of these for him, and after a bit of research, I decided to do three slightly different designs. The key with this design was to produce a design that was realistic but also practical to print.
Recently, I did an industrial bund for a large oil tank, and this is the ideal addition for that scene.
Due to the detail in this design, this design is best printed on a resin printer and is not suited for an FDM printer. Please refer to the pictures to see the rough angle I printed them at.I have seen similar items for sale, and the valve handles are very fragile, so I have designed this model in such a way that the handles are stronger and less fragile, hopefully without affecting the look. With this being a scale model, I can add strength without effecting the look.
This item has been designed at OO gauge, 1/76.2 scale.for HO print at 87%, 1:87 Scale, for TT gauge print at 63.5% 1/120 Scale, for O UK print at 175%, 1:43.5 Scale, for O International print at 158%. 1:48 Scale.for N gauge print at 51.49%, 1/148 scale. (Caution: I have not printed this model in N gauge, so I can’t guarantee its printability)
Examples in the photos were printed on an AnyCubic Mono 4 Ultra Resin Printer
I recommend printing this item on a 3D resin printer to get the best resolution print. As per normal with my designs, there is a balance between accuracy and printability, hopefully not affecting the design of the model too much.
I use AnyCubic Water Washable Resin for most of my items, but use AnyCubic ABS Like Resin for anything that needs to be stronger and tougher.
