In the near future there is a very good chance we might start to colonize the moon. Some of the constructions we might build there at that time will be plasma and laser turrets.

One of the most important reasons to build these is not warfare, but because of its defensive capabilities against falling space debris and meteorites. Unlike earth, the moon does not have an atmosphere to burn these things up before they can impact and destroy anything we might build there.

Besides asteroid defense, Plasma and laser turrets have many different utilities like clearing the orbit from debris in order to avoid kessler syndrome and of course warfare.
