Motor-variators are designed for stepless variation of speed and torque on the output shaft. For normal operation of the variator motor, the ambient temperature must be in the range from −10°C to + 50°C. During operation, the temperature of the motor-variator housing can reach 90°C.
The gear ratio in the variator is adjusted using wedge friction elements. Typically, a variator gear motor is installed in systems where the use of frequency converters is impractical or impossible, in particular, in installations where long-term operation at low speeds is necessary.
