  • Description

The emergence of Neo-Chinese style stems from several factors. First, traditional Chinese residential architecture, whether in the south or north, presents significant contradictions with the functional requirements of modern housing and the lifestyles of modern people. Second, its predominantly wooden structure has inherent limitations in building materials and construction techniques. Furthermore, the traditional courtyard houses of the north require considerable land area, while the enclosed courtyards of the south fail to meet modern living standards in terms of lighting and ventilation. Added to this is the long-standing lack of confidence in traditional Chinese architectural culture. Therefore, traditional Chinese residential architecture cannot be simply copied, nor is it easily adapted. Neo-Chinese style seamlessly blends modern living flows with the essence of traditional architecture. The design of Neo-Chinese architecture incorporates Western living flow concepts, making it more suitable for the living habits and psychological needs of modern Chinese people, and allowing more people to experience a cultural return and confidence interpreted through a modern lens.

Neo-Chinese architecture not only inherits the cultural lineage of traditional Chinese architecture but, more importantly, reflects its development and transformation of traditional architecture: it effectively preserves the essence of traditional architecture while integrating modern architectural elements and design factors, thus redefining the function and use of traditional buildings. The changing demands for architecture stem from shifts in building materials and modern lifestyles—architectural form is merely a consequence of these evolving internal developments.

The advantage of Neo-Chinese architecture lies in preserving the essence of traditional architecture while effectively integrating modern architectural elements and design factors. This transforms the functional use of traditional buildings while enhancing their distinctiveness and individuality.
