The New York Life Building is a 615ft (187.5m) tall skyscraper in New York City. The gargantuan building towers over the Northeast corner of Manhattan's Madison Square Park, occupying an entire city block. A NYC landmark, the building's prominence is accentuated by its magnificent gilded roof, its sheer bulk, and its location between Midtown and Downtown in an area with relatively few tall buildings.The building was designed by Cass Gilbert for the New York Life Insurance Company and completed in 1928. The design features a fusion of Gilbert's renowned gothic ornamentation with the wedding-cake massing of contemporary Art Deco highrises. This was the last major skyscraper constructed within the lifetime of Cass Gilbert, whose main claim to fame is New York's Woolworth Building.
Included are two versions of the New York Life Building. One version depicts the building as it looks today with a simplified roof.The other version of the building is based on Cass Gilbert's original design that lasted until the late 1960s, when the deteriorating roof needed to be entirely replaced. This design features a richly ornamented crown and an additional setback at the top of the main building that has since been removed.
Each version of the model may be printed using various methods. You may print the building in 1 or 2 pieces. The 2-piece sets of STL files splits the building vertically at the 13th floor, just before the main tower portion begins. This may be useful, as the full building may be exceedingly large and would take a very long time to print all at once. Both the modern and original versions of the building use the same base.
