As an upgraded version of the earlier PGZ-95 series, the PGZ-04 serves as a self-propelled, integrated gun-missile anti-aircraft (AA) system for the People's Liberation Army (PLA) of China. This locally designed, developed, and manufactured vehicle boasts powerful short-range surface-to-air missiles (SAMs) and rapid-fire automatic cannons mounted on a central turret. Its tracked design enables it to traverse various terrains while keeping up with the main mechanized forces of the PLA. Widely deployed within PLA mechanized units, the PGZ-04 acts as a robust deterrent against low-flying threats like attack helicopters.
