The Pittsfield Building is a 550ft (168m) tall building in Chicago, Illinois. The iconic skyscraper was built for the estate of Marshall Field and named for Pittsfield, Massachussetts, the town where the department store mogul started his career. The tower was designed by prolific Chicago firm Graham, Anderson, Probst & White in a style that combines elements of Art Deco and Neo-gothic ornamentation. Upon its completion in 1927, the Pittsfield Building was among the tallest buildings in the world. At the time, the tower's developers claimed to have built the tallest building in Chicago, standing 1 foot taller than the Chicago Temple Building. However, this dubious claim has since been refuted with the Pittsfield Building falling just a few feet short of this record. Nevertheless, it remains one of Chicago's most iconic and celebrated pieces of architectural heritage.

NOTES:

  • This building was originally uploaded in early 2019. It has since been redone from scratch re-uploaded in 2022.
  • A version of the model is included that extends the lightshaft and courtyard in the center of the building down all the way through the bottom of the model. If you're printing with a resin printer, this model uses less material and has a smaller surface area per layer.
