The Precision Sextant

The sextant used by the navy could not be applied to aviation due to the difficulty of the definition of the sky-line at a normal flight altitude. Gago Coutinho developed a new model of sextant that could be used to measure the altitude of a star without the need of the sea horizon. This new instrument was called the “Precision Sextant”. It used an artificial horizon line which was defined with the help of a water bubble. It also used an illumination system to allow its use during weak light conditions.

Being portuguese and discovering a little bit of story about how Gago Coutinho and Sacadura Cabral made the first flight across the South Atlantic, aided by this tool it made me try my best to recreate a solid replica of the real one. The model was completely modeled on the most recent version of Blender and textured on Adobe Substance Painter.The sextant model comes with 2 sets of textures: 2K resolution and 4K resolution. This was you can set up and decided which is the optimal resolution to use for your projects.In case you need to set a quick scene you may also use the 2 preset HDRIs included with the project.

The native file is a .blend, however you'll find a .fbx, an .obj & .mtl and an .stl file format included with your purchase.
