Queen Nzinga Mbande was queen of the Ambundu Kingdoms Of Ndongo and Matambe now known as northern Angola.
She Ruled during the rapid growth in the African Slave trade and Invasion of the Portuguese Empire in South West Africa, in attempts to control the slave trade. Nzinga fought for the independence of her kingdoms against the Portuguese, her reign lasted 37 years. Nzingha died December 17 1663 in her sleep from a lung infection. She is remembered for her intelligence, Her political and diplomatic wisdom and brillant military tactics.
