Shaheed Minar is a monument located in Dhaka, Bangladesh, built to honor the martyrs of the Language Movement of 1952. This movement was a pivotal moment in the struggle for the recognition of Bengali as an official language of Pakistan. The monument was originally a simple brick structure with a black plaque, but after the Pakistani government ordered its demolition, it was replaced by a towering structure made of concrete and marble. Today, Shaheed Minar is an important symbol of Bengali nationalism and a site of remembrance for those who sacrificed their lives for the cause. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site and hosts annual events commemorating the Language Movement, including International Mother Language Day on February 21.
