  • Description

Siberian flying squirrels (Pteromys volans) are small, nocturnal rodents found in the forests of northern Europe and Asia, including Russia, Finland, and parts of Japan. These squirrels are known for their ability to glide between trees using a special membrane called the patagium, which stretches from their front to back legs. This adaptation allows them to travel long distances between trees, up to 90 meters (295 feet), to escape predators or forage for food. Siberian flying squirrels feed primarily on seeds, buds, berries, and sometimes small insects. With their large eyes adapted for night vision and their agile, silent gliding, these squirrels are perfectly suited for their nocturnal, arboreal lifestyle.
