This is the first piece of a chess set that I have been inspired to design based on an artistic idea i came up with while watching Star Trek in the early 1970's. There is an episode called the Tholian Web where a species known as the Tholians claim an area of space that the Enterprise is in. The alien species appear briefly on the screen and seem to be shaped with geometrical heads that contain flat surfaces, and sharp lines that come to a point.

Their ship designs were also flat geometric surfaces with shap lines and points, that seemed to be based on triangles and or a 3 sided theme. I started out with real 3 sided pyrimid shapes that were only different in size to distinguish the different chess pieces and a slight bending in angle to differentiate the knight.

I thought that if the Federation and the Tholians ever did get along that it would honor them to make a chess set based on this 3 sided aspect. I also made a chess board while I was in High School that was based on Triangles in an attempt to develope a 3 sided chess game. The concept has been done several times, and more succesfully by other designers, but I did have an interest in the idea.

This is the first of the 6 peices that I am posting on CG trader and then I will post the whole set files.

The pawn in this file is measured for a custom board that has 2.5 inch playing squares but can be rescaled to fit basically any board set up. I can cauculate scales based on playing squares upon request.
