The Mandalorian, also referred to simply as Mando, is a fictional character in the Star Wars franchise and title character of the Disney+ series The Mandalorian. Orphaned as a young child, Din Djarin was adopted into the Mandalorian culture and became a bounty hunter and warrior, taking the title of his people as a sobriquet. Originally hired to capture Grogu, an alien infant also known as The Child, the Mandalorian instead protects him from a remnant of the fallen Galactic Empire, and becomes a father figure for him. The character is rarely seen without his helmet, which he is not allowed to publicly remove per the Way of the Mandalore, a strict code of rules and traditions which he follows, unlike most Mandalorian characters in the franchise introduced prior. In Chapter 11: The Heiress, it is implied that this code was indoctrinated by his Mandalorian rescuers, known as The Watch, who are among the few to still follow the Way of the Mandalore, which has been forgotten by mainstream Mandalorian society. As the series progresses, the Mandalorian learns to distance himself from his code, to the point where he eventually breaks it by removing his helmet during his final moments with Grogu to let him see his face for the first time, having grown to care more about him than any Mandalorian tradition.
