The Winchester Model 21 is a high-quality side-by-side shotgun introduced by the Winchester Repeating Arms Company in 1931. Designed by engineers William Roemer and Edwin Pugsley, it was built to be an exceptionally strong and durable shotgun capable of handling powerful loads while maintaining excellent reliability. The Model 21 was produced primarily in 12, 16, 20, and 28 gauge configurations and became known for its robust boxlock action, high level of craftsmanship, and custom-grade finishing. Although expensive compared to many other shotguns of its era, it gained a reputation among hunters, sport shooters, and collectors as one of the finest American-made double-barrel shotguns. Production continued in various forms until the early 1990s through Winchester’s custom shop, and today the Model 21 remains highly valued for its quality, rarity, and historical significance in American sporting firearms.
