  • Description

Ceratosaurus was a distinctive theropod dinosaur that lived during the Late Jurassic period, approximately 153 to 148 million years ago. This medium-sized carnivore could grow up to 20 feet in length and is best known for the prominent horn on its snout, along with smaller hornlets above its eyes. Its body was robust, with strong limbs, a long tail, and a mouth filled with sharp, blade-like teeth designed for slicing through flesh. Ceratosaurus also possessed a row of osteoderms, or bony plates, along its back, adding to its fearsome appearance. This agile predator likely hunted a variety of prey, including smaller dinosaurs and possibly fish, given its semi-aquatic tendencies. Fossil evidence of Ceratosaurus has been discovered primarily in North America and Portugal, providing valuable insights into the diverse predatory dinosaurs of the Jurassic era.
