The KM66 combat knife (or dagger), developed in the mid-1960s, began to be supplied to the National People's Army (Nationale Volksarmee) of the GDR in 1966. It was intended for use by special forces soldiers and paratroopers. Its overall length is 265 mm, blade length is 145 mm, blade width is 22 mm, and blade thickness is 5 mm. The blade is steel, sharpened on both sides, and the handle is bakelite. The knife remained in service with the NVA DDR until the unification of Germany.
