Mamenchisaurus was a remarkable sauropod dinosaur that lived during the Late Jurassic period, around 160 million years ago, in what is now China. This herbivore is best known for its extraordinarily long neck, which made up nearly half of its total body length — some individuals stretched over 80 feet! Its long neck allowed it to browse from tall trees and cover large areas of vegetation without needing to move much. Despite its enormous size, Mamenchisaurus moved gracefully on four pillar-like legs and likely lived in herds for protection. This unique dinosaur remains one of the most iconic long-necked giants in paleontology, especially for its distinctive and record-setting neck.
