  • Description

Therizinosaurus was a highly unusual herbivorous theropod dinosaur that lived during the Late Cretaceous period, approximately 70 million years ago. It is most famous for its enormous, elongated claws, which could grow up to 1 meter (3 feet) in length—the longest claws of any known animal. Measuring up to 10 meters (33 feet) in length and weighing around 5 tons, Therizinosaurus had a long neck, a small head with a beak-like mouth, and a robust, bird-like body covered in feathers. It likely used its claws to pull down branches, strip foliage, or for defense against predators. Fossils of Therizinosaurus have been discovered in Mongolia, offering insights into the unique adaptations of theropods that transitioned to a herbivorous lifestyle.
