Description

The M142 HIMARS is based on the US Army's three-axle (five-ton) FMTV wheeled chassis and can carry six MLRS rockets or one ATACMS tactical ballistic missile. HIMARS is interchangeable with the M270A1 MLRS, carrying half of its ammunition load. The M142 HIMARS system is air transportable on a C-130 aircraft. The M142 HIMARS has also been tested as a universal launcher, both for launching surface-to-surface missiles and for launching ground-based AIM-120 AMRAAM anti-aircraft missiles.
