Description

HK416 is a German machine gun adapted to the American AR-15 modular system, created by Heckler & Koch. Despite the external similarity with the M4 carbine, the mechanism of the machine gun is actually closer to the German N&K G36, and not to the AR models of American rifles. Initially, the new weapon was supposed to be a replaceable module for installation on any trigger box (lower receiver) from the M4 or M16, however, later fully equipped automatic weapons appeared. The name HK416 means compatibility according to NATO standards with magazines from M4 and M16 — NATO-STANAG-DRAFT 4179 (M4/M16 Magazines). The last version of the machine gun is called HK416A5. In addition, a version chambered for the 7.62×51 mm cartridge — the HK417 — is supplied, which competes with the FN SCAR. It was adopted by the Bundeswehr under the designation of the G38 family[3].
