This is the infamous sidearm currently in use by Los Angeles Police Department's Special Weapons and Tactics (LAPD SWAT) team. It entered service from 2002 to present. Since around the 2010s, LAPD SWAT has upgraded their Kimbers to have a picatinny rail frame, which allowed the mounting of flashlights. The SureFire x300 series remain their main flashlight attachment of choice.Interestingly, LAPD SWAT Kimbers feature custom engraved markings on the slide and has a special serial number “KLA114XXX”. KLA stands for “Kimber Los Angeles”, 114 is the police radio SWAT code, and XXX are the 3 unique serial numbers.
