The Magazine Lee–Enfield (often abbreviated MLE) and the Lee–Enfield Long Lee refer to early generations of British military rifles that laid the foundation for one of the most famous rifle families in history.

The Magazine Lee–Enfield, introduced in 1895, was the first British service rifle to combine James Paris Lee’s rear-locking bolt system with a detachable box magazine holding 10 rounds of .303 British ammunition. It replaced the earlier single-shot and tubular-magazine designs, dramatically increasing the soldier’s sustained rate of fire. Its bolt action was smooth and fast for the time, and the rear-lug locking design allowed for quicker cycling compared to many contemporary rifles.
