It was adopted by Swiss and German armies and was partially repalced by the Walter P-38 during the second world war. It had multiple variants due to the necessities of the first and second world wars as an elongated barrel, a carabine version or a modified chambering. Parabellum became one of the most popular pistols in popular culture and it is a recognized symbol of the WW2 german army.
