  • Description

Model of a futuristic quad mecha AIFV. Originally designed in 3D-Coat (sculpt/retopo/painting), it was later reworked in Blender, especially for rigging purposes. This object comes with textures varying from to 2K to 8K for the hull on the full model available on CGTrader. Textures includes base color, normal map, metallic and roughness ; they can occasionnaly have also emissive map.The model is low poly and PBR (metal/rough).

The model comes in four versions :• Blender file, packed, rigged with full armature and weight mapping, and empties (nulls) as controllers for easy animation in object mode. Legs have IK already applied. The rig os shwocased on the vimeo video.• FBX file, with textures, armature and properly assigned weight mapping, nulls are also present, but the parenting got lost in the export process, as well as IK. • GLB file, with textures, armature and properly assigned weight mapping, nulls are also present, but the parenting got lost in the export process, as well as IK.

Please note that for .OBJ and .FBX objects, it is recommended to put the textures in the same folder as the objects. All textures are packed in a single zip file.

Important note about rigging :Exporting rigged model from Blender looses some important informations in the process, such as IK or null controllers that will have to be reassigned manually in your favorite app. Please note that there are also 9 bones labbeled as connectors : they just do that, connect on part of the rig to another. It is crucial that these bones have rotation on all axes locked, otherwise, you will get really weird results when animating. As for the Blender rig, I made the choice of controlling the model with empties (nulls) instead of bones with custom shapes. I know it is not the more common workflow in Blender, where you tend to use bones as controlers and animate in pose mode, but I find empties as controllers, even in Blender, easier for mechanical rigs. So here, you'll animate the quad mecha in object mode, exclusively through the controllers (see the video).
