Tokugawa Tanto - A Japanese Dagger Low-poly 3D model

Description

The tanto is a Japanese short blade dating back to the Heian period. It the early eras of production, it was a simple weapon and tool, but as Japan moved towards the Edo period, they would become more ornately decorated just as other swords of the time. They were an omnipresent side arm used by samurai until they were replaced with wakizashi, at which point they slowly began to fall out of fashion. Even so, they were still produced late into the Edo period. This rendition is based on various tanto specimens from the British Museum, and the guard is closely modeled after museum number 1981,0128.26. The guard is composed of three hollyhock leaves in a circle, which is the insignia of the Tokugawa clan. Tokugawa was the ruling dynasty of the Edo military government, and was one of if not the most powerful clan in the Edo period.
