Description:Since the mid-1920s, the German army was looking for a light passenger carwith improved mobility in the field. According to the assumptions, they were to have standard 4x2 chassis and completely open bodies. To protect against bad weather conditions, they were to be equipped with a foldable canvas roof and roll-up canvas covers in place of the doors. These vehicles were to have increased ground clearance by installing larger wheels, as well as reinforced springs, rebuilt exhaust systems and brakes. The safety of the car crew during off-road driving was to be increased by specially shaped bucket seats. They provided additional side support, protecting against falling out of the vehicle. Initially, because of such seats, light off-road passenger vehicles were called Kübelsitze by soldiers. Later - Kübelsitzwagen. Ultimately, the shortened name was adopted - Kübelwagen. Over time, this name became the traditional name for German two-axle open-top off-road vehicles, even when they were no longer equipped with characteristic seats. German Army (The Reichswehr , and later the Wehrmacht ) used vehicles of this type of many different brands. These were often off-road civilian passenger cars.
